Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding for client’s who require a shared living support arrangement. It incorporates shared support with daily tasks for 2 or more client’s in the home (the shared residency), and may also include out of home individual support or support in a group community environment. Each NDIS client however, is funded for their support individually depending on their specific needs.
ILSA has experience in helping clients navigate this shared support model. We have a good understanding of the SIL quoting process and have assisted clients and / or their families quantify the shared support roster required. Most often a SIL application will require a functional needs assessment for each client requiring the SIL support.
It is important to note that SIL funding is separate to a client’s housing situation. SIL support can be provided to client’s sharing in a variety of residency settings, including a home being rented through the Department of Housing, or a home that is rented privately. Clients can also be eligible for a home classified as NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) which would be qualified in a client’s NDIS Plan.
ILSA is not a provider of SDA housing stock itself, rather we specialise in providing the SIL support within the home. We employ Support Workers to assist clients with daily tasks which includes support with personal domestic and household activities. We aim to involve each client heavily in their own shared support situation and take ownership of the development of common house rules and responsibilities. The support we provide has a specific focus on developing the skills of each individual to live as autonomously as possible. SIL support can be provided as 24 hour / 7 days per week support including sleepover support overnight.
